To Rear Admiral Barras

Head Quarters New Windsor 19th June 1781

sir

I have been honrd with your Excellency’s Favr of the 14th instant.1

Inclosed you will find an Extract of a Letter I have just received from Genl Sullivan at Phila.—the Information it contains is of such Nature that I have thot of Importance to communicate to your Excellency—and altho it is not Official, yet I have too much Reason, from concurrent Circumstances, to suppose it may be true.2 If any further Intelligence shall asertain the Arrival of this Reinforcement, I shall do myself the Honor to communicate the same to you.3

Your Letter to the Chevalr ⟨La⟩ Luzerne, shall be forwarded with all possible Care & Dispatch.4 I have the Honor to be &c.

2The enclosure has not been found but likely was the same extract on British warships reaching the Chesapeake Bay that GW enclosed with his letter to Lieutenant General Rochambeau of this date (see also John Sullivan to GW, 11 June, source note).

4Barras had enclosed a letter to French minister La Luzerne, which has not been identified, when he wrote GW on 14 June.
