Brickmason John Jordan (1777-1854) did work at Monticello in 1805. He became prominent in Lexington, Virginia, building and improving roads and canals and constructing Washington College, later Washington and Lee University (Jerry Donovan, “John Jordan, Virginia Builder,” Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians, 9 [1950], 17-19; , 2:1108n).
