From Benjamin Franklin to Ralph Izard, 4 April 1778

To Ralph Izard

Copy and two transcripts: National Archives; transcript:2 South Carolina Historical Society

Passy April 4th. 1778.

Sir,

If I continue well and nothing extraordinary happens to prevent it, you shall have the Letter you so earnestly desire sometime next week. I am Sir Your most obedient humble Servant

(Signed) B. Franklin

Honble Mr. Izard.
(Copy)

[Note numbering follows the Franklin Papers source.]

2The copy and transcripts presumably came from Izard’s file of the correspondence (which has since disappeared) for they all include a note by him: “N.B. I informed myself from time to time of Dr. Franklins health which was always good; and after having waited three weeks without hearing from him, I wrote him the following letter R.I.” That letter was his below of April 25.
