Mt Vernon 10th June 1785.
Gentn,
No such person as Mr Lang being in my employ, & having no knowledge of such a character myself, I detained the letter to him until I could make some enquiries of others: these proving fruitless, you will receive under cover, the letter which was committed to my care. with esteem I am, Gentn Yrs &c.

John Swanwick (1740–1798) had been a clerk in the firm of (Thomas) Willing & (Robert) Morris before becoming a partner in the Philadelphia firm in September 1783. The forwarded letter has not been identified.
