Varick transcript, DLC:GW.

1Thomas Waterman (1731–1807) received a commission as an ensign in the 2d Rhode Island Regiment in January 1777. Later promoted to lieutenant, he became the regiment’s adjutant in August 1777. His service record indicates that Waterman was placed under arrest in spring 1780 “by order of the Civil Authority” and discharged in May “by order of Gen. Steuben, for his villainous conduct” (see DNA: RG 93, Compiled Service Records of Soldiers who Served in the American Army During the Revolutionary War, 2nd Rhode Island Regiment).
