1The total of the figures in the two columns amounts to £1,511. It should be noted that no value is assigned to the children whose names appear at the end of each column of this list. The 1753 account for Lawrence Washington’s estate showed slaves in Fairfax County (at Mount Vernon) worth £963 and slaves on Lawrence’s lands in Frederick County worth £554, for a total of £1,517 (Fairfax County Will Book B, no. 1, p. 117). With the exception of the slave Acco, the last 19 names in the left-hand column are the same slave names that appear in the lease of Mount Vernon from George and Ann Lee to GW, 17 Dec. 1754.
