Joseph Lane (d. 1796), a younger brother of James and William Carr Lane of Newgate, lived at Nomini Forest in Westmoreland County and was the deputy collector of customs for the South Potomac Naval District ( , 468–77; Va. Gaz., P&D, 25 Feb. 1773).
