6. Bated at old Codleys. Dind and lodgd at my Brother Sam’s.

GW’s expenses at Codley’s (Caudley’s) were £6 (General Ledger A description begins General Ledger A, 1750–1772. Library of Congress, George Washington Papers, Series 5, Financial Papers. description ends , folio 329). Codley’s was located at Williams’ (later Snickers’) Gap in the Blue Ridge. It was near the site of present-day Bluemont, some 15 miles from Samuel Washington’s home at Harewood.
