RC (DLC). Undated; conjectural date assigned based on JM’s docket on verso: “21. Aug. 1824.”
1. This was probably the E. Gregory who traveled from Liverpool and landed in New York in July 1824 (Baltimore Patriot & Mercantile Advertiser, 9 July 1824). On 20 July he visited John Quincy Adams, who noted that: “A man by the name of Gregory came to the Office, apparently a German Jew, but last from England; insound, and imploring protection from a universal conspiracy to poison him” (MHi: Adams Papers [microfilm ed.], reel 7).
