I have recd your letter of the 21st. inst: on the subject of your trip to Pena.1 I cannot suppose that under the circumstances you state, Mr. Monroe would disapprove it. Accept my respects

1. The letter has not been found, but on 27 Sept. 1815 James Monroe wrote Pleasonton from Montpelier: “I am glad to hear by yours of the 23. which I have this moment receiv’d, of your return, with your family, as I hope in good health” (ViU: Pleasonton Family Papers, Special Collections).
