To Albert Gallatin, 27 January 1806 (Abstract)
§ To Albert Gallatin. 27 January 1806, Department of State. “I have the honor to request that you will be pleased to issue your warrant on the appropriation for the contingent expences of Indiana Territory, for Thirty-nine dollars & fifty two cents,1 in favor of Solomon Fish, holder of the enclosed bill, drawn upon me, the 21st. day of Septr. last, by Wm. H. Harrison Esqr. Governor of said Territory, who is to be charged with, and held accountable for the same.”2

1. On the same day JM wrote William Henry Harrison: “Your draft, in favor of G. W. Johnston, for 39 52/100, has been presented at this Office & paid. It is however desirable that, in conformity with the usage established, your drafts should for the future be accompanied by an account current of the items of expence for which they may be drawn, supported by proper vouchers” (DNA: RG 59, DL, vol. 15; 1 p.).
2. On 20 May 1806 JM wrote Gallatin requesting a warrant “on the appropriations for the Contingent expenses of the Territory of Michigan, for three hundred & Sixty five dollars, in favor of Peter Gansevoort Jnr. Esqr. (and direct the same to be transmitted to him at Albany N. Y.) in whose favor the enclosed bill [not found] was drawn on me by William Hull Esqr: Governor of said Territory of Michigan, who is to be charged with & held accountable for the same” (ibid.; 1 p.).
