To James Madison from Peter Carr, 13 July 1789
From Peter Carr
Sunday Morning—July 13. 1789.
Dr Sir,
You informed me some time ago, that there remained in your hands a balance of some money due Mr. Jefferson, and that you were willing it should be applied to the use of my brother and myself. Being disappointed in receiving money which I had expected here you will oblige me much, by advancing what is in Yr. hands.1 I am Sir Yr. very H Servt
Peter Carr
RC (DLC). Addressed by Carr. Docketed by JM. Perhaps outlining a letter, JM wrote on the outer cover: “Judiciary bill / Salaries / Amendts.”
1. JM wrote across the head of the document: “80 drs. Eighty dollars advanced to P. Carr, in consequence of this note.”
