Sir

In obedience to the requisitions of the law I now inclose for the President and Directors of the Literary fund to be laid before the legislature at their ensuing session, the Report of the 6th of October last, of the Rector and Visitors of the University of Virginia, embracing a full account of the disbursements, the funds on hand, and a general statement of the condition, of the sd University, and pray you to accept the assurance of my high respect and consideration

In a letter to Linn Banks, Speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates, dated Richmond, 1 Dec. 1823, Pleasants conveyed the enclosed annual report and documents “for the present year, received by me as President of the Literary Fund, in the month of November last” (printed in Report and Documents for 1823, unpaginated frontmatter, Richmond Enquirer, 6 Dec. 1823, and elsewhere; at foot of text: “The honorable the Speaker of the House of Delegates”).
