The President will recieve you tomorrow or after at [yo]ur convenience, & sit for his portrait. I will give you any [as]sistance necessary towards carrying your implements Etc.

RC (ViU: TJP); partially dated at foot of text; edge trimmed; addressed: “Mr Ford”; with Thomas Jefferson Randolph’s signed notation, dated 3 Mar. 1858, adjacent to dateline: “The above note is in the hand writing of the former President of the US.” Not recorded in SJL.

The president was James Monroe.
