Thomas Jefferson Papers

DeWitt Clinton to Thomas Jefferson, 7 March 1822

From DeWitt Clinton

Albany 7 March 1822

Dear Sir

I have the pleasure of transmitting to You a report relative to the State of our Canals.

I also take the liberty of enclosing two metallic pens made by the Shakers near this City: They can manufacture enough for the supply of the U. S.—and their pens write better and are much cheaper than any imported.

With entire respect I am Your most Obedt servt

DeWitt Clinton

RC (MHi); at foot of text: “T. Jefferson Esqr”; endorsed by TJ as received 17 Mar. 1822. Enclosure: The Annual Report of the Canal Commissioners of the State of New-York, Presented to the Legislature, the 27th February, 1822 (Albany, 1822).
