Mr. Patton presents his compliments to the President of the United States & begs leave to inform him that, he has received his note, enclosing a letter for Mr. Dupont, which shall be delivered immediately on his arrival in this City.

RC (DLC); endorsed by TJ as received 13 May and so recorded in SJL with notation “Patten PostM Phila.”

TJ’s NOTE to Patton has not been found but it enclosed TJ to Pierre Samuel Du Pont de Nemours, 3 May.
