Report of a Committee concerning Hugh Mercer

The committee &c
having agreed to the following resolution.

Resolved that the Superintendant of finance be directed to take order for the paiment of 333 ⅓ Dollars to the guardian of Hugh Mercer son of the late General Mercer for one year’s education and maintenance.

MS (DNA: PCC, No. 19, iv); entirely in TJ’s hand; at foot of text, in Thomson’s hand: “passed April 27. 1784”; endorsed in part: “No. 20. Resoln of Comte: Mr Jefferson Mr Sherman Mr Gerry On a motion of Mr Jefferson.”

TJ’s motion, made the same day, is also in DNA: PCC, No. 19, iv, and reads: “That the Superintendant of finance take order for paying to the guardian of Hugh Mercer Dollars for one year’s maintenance”; it is endorsed “Mr Jefferson Mr Howell,” indicating that Howell seconded TJ’s motion (DNA: PCC, No. 186).
