[Williamsburg] 16 Feb. 1780. Requesting approval of purchase, from Henry Brown, of “10 hhds of Rum at £25. ⅌ Gall. in exchange for Cordage at 40/. ⅌ lb.—the price … is extravagant, but … Troops cannot be marched on to the Southward without this Article‥‥”

TJ’s reply has not been located, but this minute follows in the Journal: “Which being approved by the Executive, Ordered that the Agent be directed to purchase the same.”
