From John Jay to Peter Augustus Jay, 20 April 1819
To Peter Augustus Jay
Bedford. 20 April 1819
Dear Peter
I have recd. your Letter of the 15 Inst—1 The Measures you have taken appear to me to have been prudent, and the Letter you wrote unexceptionable. —That many will be pleased to see you in the Station you fill, I have no Doubt; and I am also persuaded that Envy and Discontent will watch your ways.— Be prudent, and without Sollicitude leave the Results to Providence—
I am glad that John was well, and that he had improved. May all your Accounts of him contain similar Items.—
The Prospect of having your Family with us gives me pleasure— As to the Time that will be most convenient to us— Maria says she will write to you particularly on the Subject, and I refer you to her Letter—2
Inquire of Mr Foote by a few Lines, whether he has done any thing about the Land under his care.3 I cannot account for your not recieving any Information from him. Perhaps he has not recd. our Letters; if so, our Silence must appear singular to him.— my Love to Mary & the Children, I am, Dear Peter, Your very affte. Father
