John Jay Papers

From John Jay to William Livingston, 12 July 1787

To William Livingston

N York 12 July 1787

Dr Sir

Agreable to your ^kind^ Request Peter is now going to pay his Elizabeth—He is no less pleased with this Mark of your affectionate Attention than I am, and I flatter myself will be equally disposed to manifest his Sense of it. You will find him thin and pale—a Fever has just left him, and a Relapse is to be of course to be guarded against—While he is with you I have nothing to apprehend from want of Care. It would have given me great Pleasure to accompany him, but it is not at present in my power, If it should be before your Return to Philadelphia, I shall not Neglect the opportunity of passing some pleasant Hours with You. at any Rate Let me recieve peter again from your own Hands, and that so long before you ^the Time you purpose to^ set out for the Convention as that you may favor us with a letter more of your Company than you ^such the^ short visits to us ^as^ you usually make to NYork permit us to enjoy—I am Dr Sr your affe. & hble Servt

His Exy Gov. Livingston

Dft, NNC (EJ: 8288).
