[Salem, Massachusetts, October 18, 1789. On October 29, 1789, Hamilton wrote to Goodhue: “I am duly favoured with your letter of the Eighteenth instant.” Letter not found.]

1. Goodhue, a Salem merchant and a Massachusetts state senator, was elected to the House of Representatives in 1789. As a Congressman, Goodhue played a major role in drawing up the revenue laws.
