Alexander Hamilton and Egbert Benson
to John Lansing, Junior
Newark [New Jersey] September 1, 1786. “We set out this afternoon on a journey to Anapolis in obedience to the appointment of the Legislature respecting the proposed commercial arrangements and are thus far on our journey.1 This of course renders it impossible for either of us to be at the intended trials in which Mr. Rensselaaer is concerned.”
