The first entry in this record indicates its earliest possible dating; BF could hardly have received the news of his half-sister Elizabeth’s death until after returning to London from his Scottish tour at the beginning of November 1759. He referred to the loss in a letter to Jane Mecom, Jan. 9, 1760. Just when he compiled the list, however, or for what purpose, remains uncertain.
