Writs of election to the House of Burgesses, dated 3 Nov. and returnable 15 Dec. 1768, were issued by the council and new governor, Norborne Berkeley, baron de Botetourt. The election in Fairfax County was held on 1 December. See Fairfax County Poll Sheet, 1 Dec. 1768. GW reported that after the election he “Stayd all Night to a Ball wch. I had given” (Diaries description begins Donald Jackson and Dorothy Twohig, eds. The Diaries of George Washington. 6 vols. Charlottesville, Va., 1976–79. description ends , 2:113). John Orr (b. 1726) was a Scottish merchant who settled first in Westmoreland and then in Fairfax County. His name does not appear on the poll as a voter.

This is probably for the 20½ acre strip of ungranted wasteland along the west side of Dogue Run for which GW received a grant on 4 Mar. 1771 from the Fairfax proprietary office (Northern Neck Grants, 1:187, Vi). GW would receive a warrant for the land before surveying it himself on 24 Mar. 1770 (Diaries description begins Donald Jackson and Dorothy Twohig, eds. The Diaries of George Washington. 6 vols. Charlottesville, Va., 1976–79. description ends , 2:222). This narrow strip of land would join to the main body of his Mount Vernon land the three tracts of land which GW had bought in 1761, 1762, and 1763 from John and George Ashford and Simon Pearson (see the chart in Diaries description begins Donald Jackson and Dorothy Twohig, eds. The Diaries of George Washington. 6 vols. Charlottesville, Va., 1976–79. description ends , 1:240). The slip would also be essential to the relocation and rebuilding of GW’s mill in 1770 (see GW to Charles West, 6 June 1769, and Diaries description begins Donald Jackson and Dorothy Twohig, eds. The Diaries of George Washington. 6 vols. Charlottesville, Va., 1976–79. description ends , 2:204, 232–33).

GW repeats the Muir and Price entries after the Betcy Dandridge entry of 19 December. The repeated entries have been deleted. Thomas Price was a brickmaker.

Morris, a slave, was overseer of Dogue Run farm.

Mike, or Michael, was one of GW’s slave carpenters.
