1. Gregory was collector of customs at the port of Plankbridge in the District of Camden, North Carolina.
2. Edmund Sawyer had been appointed surveyor of the port of Pasquotank Bridge in the District of Camden, North Carolina, on February 9, 1789 ( , 37, 39). On February 20, 1797, the Senate confirmed the nomination of Mathias E. Sawyer to fill the position left vacant when Edmund Sawyer died ( , 226).
