2In his account with “The Colony of Virginia,” GW shows the colony owing him £91.3.1 in 1765, of which seven shillings was to pay the “printg Office for advertisg a Meetg of the Commissioners appointed to settle Militia Ac[count]s.” The remainder was for his attendance at the January session of the Virginia assembly in 1764, the October session in 1764, and the May session in 1765 (General Ledger A description begins General Ledger A, 1750–1772. Library of Congress, George Washington Papers, Series 5, Financial Papers. description ends , folio 122, 191). On the contra side of the ledger, GW notes that he has overcharged the colony by £22, “in the difference between 10/ & 15/ pr day—viz. 88 days @5/,” leaving the total at £69.3.1 as it appears here; he also notes that he has ordered £20 of this to be paid to the “sheriff of Albemarle” (General Ledger A description begins General Ledger A, 1750–1772. Library of Congress, George Washington Papers, Series 5, Financial Papers. description ends , folio 191). His Cash Accounts for December 1765 show on 11 Dec. the treasury paid the sheriff of Albemarle County £20.
