RC (Vi). Addressed: “To His Excellency Thomas Jefferson esqr.” Endorsed by TJ: “Colo. Matthews.” Enclosure missing, possibly a duplicate of the list of sums of money received enclosed in Alexander Sinclair’s letter to TJ, 21 May 1780, q.v. On verso: Advice of Council concerning Money Collected by Sampson Matthews, following.
George Brooke was at this time state treasurer (
, May 1780, 1827 edn., p. 64).1. The dates in this column are in a later hand, possibly added when the matter was under consideration and certificates were issued in 1783.
2. The amounts in the last three columns are in a different hand and probably represent accrued interest.
