I beg leave to acknowledge receipt of the honour of your Esteemed favour from the 26 Int. Covering your remittance of £1900.—.— on Denis Rougemont5 from the 8th. August at 2/m date. The value of which shall be received by me & for which produce Your particular account shall be Credited agreable to your desire of the abovesaid sum.—6

4. Writing on behalf of his father, Ferdinand Grand. Jean-François-Paul wrote two versions of this letter: one in French, which he signed, and this English translation on the verso.

6. BF’S letter has not been found, but the bill of exchange, for £82 15 s. II p. (equivalent to approximately 1,900 l.t.), had been sent to WTF by William Vaughan on Aug. 8, 1783 (APS). The money was a reimbursement for funds BF had advanced to Samuel Vaughan, Jr.; see XL, 96, 443n. BF’S private account was credited on Oct. 18: Account XVII (XXVI, 3).
