Your favour of the 8th we have duly Recd

The Books in question have been regularly forwarded according to order—& we have no doubt will shortly reach your hands.

They were forwarded in a box to1 F. A. Mayo, Richmond, Jan 13.2 on which day, Capt Peyton was advised that such a parcel was addressed to his care.—

RC (MHi); in Mathew Carey’s hand, with postscript written by a different representative of Mathew Carey & Son adjacent to closing and signature; dateline in Carey’s hand at foot of text; at head of text in Carey’s hand: “Thomas Jefferson, Esqr”; notation by TJ on verso pertaining to his reply to Carey of 10 May 1818: “Addresses to mr A. Chipman Virg. Delph. Vir. illustr. Hardie McMahon”; endorsed by TJ as a letter from “Carey Matthew” received 6 May 1818 and so recorded in SJL.

TJ’s favour of the 8th has not been found and is not recorded in SJL.
