Dear Sir
Last Evening I was honored with Your Excellency’s Favor of the 14th.
I have given Orders for the Guard requested As also to the Quarter Master to furnish Forage at Mr Birdsall’s for the Number of Horses mentioned in your Excellency’s Letter.1
My Answers to the Questions proposed by Your Excellency to the Council of War, I will do myself the Honor to deliver in Person.2 I am, with sentiments of the most profound respect & Esteem, Your Excellency’s Most Obedt Servt

Daniel Birdsall (1734–1800) became a lieutenant in the 5th New York Regiment in November 1776, served as regimental quartermaster from June 1778 to June 1779, and resigned in November 1779. His residence in Peekskill, N.Y., sometimes served as GW’s headquarters.
