Fitzpatrick, Calendar of the Correspondence of George Washington with the Officers (Washington, 1915), II, 1362, and in JCHW description begins John C. Hamilton, ed., The Works of Alexander Hamilton (New York, 1851). description ends , I, 140–42. Actually it was written by Major William Galvan, who had been sent by Washington to Cape Henry to wait for the arrival of the French (see GW description begins John C. Fitzpatrick, ed., The Writings of George Washington (Washington, 1931–1944). description ends , XVIII, 367–69, 372–73, 375). The letter is in French.
