§ To Albert Gallatin. 27 January 1806, Department of State. “Be pleased to issue your warrant, on the appropriation for the Contingent expences of the Department of State, for five hundred dollars, in favor of Christopher S Thom: he to be charged & held accountable for the same.”1

1On 28 Jan. 1806 JM requested Gallatin to issue a warrant on the same appropriation “for one hundred dollars, in favor of William Hull Esqr.,” who was to be charged and held accountable for it (DNA: RG 59, DL, vol. 15; 1 p.). On 10 Feb. and 18 Mar. 1806 he requested five hundred and eight hundred dollars, respectively, in favor of Thom (ibid.; 1 p. each). Also on 18 Mar. JM made two separate requests of five hundred dollars and one thousand three hundred and twenty five dollars in favor of Fulwar Skipwith (ibid.; 1 p. each). On 4 Apr. 1806 he requested a warrant on the State Department’s contingency fund for six hundred dollars, and on 18 Apr. he requested a warrant for five hundred dollars in Thom’s favor from the same fund for department expenses (ibid.; 1 p. each).
