Leitch’s records indicate that on this day TJ purchased by order “10lb rice” at “9d” a pound and “1 wire Sifter” at “6/–” for a total of $2.25 (Leitch Daybook description begins MS daybook of Charlottesville merchant James Leitch, 2 Mar. 1820–8 May 1823, ViCMRL, on deposit ViU, bound volume with ruled paper, in a clerk’s hand description ends , p. 356).
