§ From John Armstrong. 23 March 1814, War Department. “I have the honor respectfully to propose for your approbation the following appointments in the Army of the United States.”

RC and enclosure (DNA: RG 46, Executive Proceedings, Nominations, 13B-A2); letterbook copy and letterbook copy of enclosure (DNA: RG 107, LSP). RC 1 p.; in a clerk’s hand, signed by Armstrong. The appended list (6 pp.) included one hundred and thirty-eight nominations for appointments in the infantry, artillery, rangers, riflemen, dragoons, and engineers. JM submitted the nominations to the Senate on 28 Mar. 1814 (DNA: RG 46, Executive Proceedings, Nominations, 13B-A2; printed in Senate Exec. Proceedings, description begins Journal of the Executive Proceedings of the Senate of the United States of America (3 vols.; Washington, 1828). description ends 2:516–20).
