ALB, DLC:GW. GW wrote on the lower part of the letter “sent by Captn McNabb.” This is probably John McNabb of the Theodorick which cleared the upper district of James River on 3 April bound for London (Virginia Gazette [Purdie and Dixon; Williamsburg], 16 April 1767).
1. GW credited £99.9.8 to his account with Cary & Co. in 1767, “To Jno. & Chas. Oneill’s draft on Thos Wilkenson & Co. Merchts London” ( , folio 198). GW wrote by mistake both “&” and “and” between “Wilkenson” and “Company.”
2. The goods Capt. John Johnstoun brought were those that GW ordered on 23, 28 June and 21 July 1766 and sent by Cary with the invoice of 17 Nov. 1766. John Boyes in the Nautilus was bringing the goods directed to Joseph Valentine, by an invoice dated 31 Jan. 1767, for GW’s and John Parke Custis’s York River plantations. GW acknowledged their receipt in a letter to Cary of 17 May 1767.
