GW on 30 Aug. wrote William Herbert, president of the Bank of Alexandria, that he wished to extend the sixty-day loan of $1,500 which he had taken out in June and used to make a payment of $1,000 on 2 July to the builder George Blagdin. See GW to Herbert, 25 June 1799, and notes 1 and 2 of that document. Thornton notified GW on 1 Sept. that Blagdin would need another $1,000 by 20 September. GW sent Thornton the money for Blagdin on 11 September.
