Head Quarters Boston June 5th 1779
Dear General
The last Evening I was honor’d with the Receipt of yours of the 26th Ulto;1 am preparing to leave this Place with all possible Dispatch, which will be in the Course of a few days,2 & hope soon to have the Honor of paying my respects to your Excellency in Person.3 I have the Honor to be wth the greatest Respect Your Excellency’s most Obedt Servant

1. GW had enclosed his letter of 26 May to Heath in a letter of the same date to Maj. Gen. Horatio Gates, who then forwarded the letter addressed to Heath (see Gates to GW, 8 June).
2. A letter of 7 June from Heath to Gates, written at Boston, reads: “I have received his Excellency General Washingtons orders to proceed forthwith to Head Quarters, shall Set out the latter End of this week or begining of next” (MHi: Heath Papers).
3. Heath met GW at West Point on 22 June (see General Orders, 23 June, and n.2 to that document).
