1. No minutes of the General Meeting of the Society of the Cincinnati in May 1787 have been found. Edward Carrington of Virginia wrote George Weedon, 18 June 1787, that the General Meeting had “avoided the publication of any part of these proceedings except the election of Officers—publications answer no useful purposes to the Order, and are often the Means of bringing into Public speculation things that are not matured and of course liable to misconstruction” ( 168–71).
