[October 24, 1792. On December 31, 1792, Hamilton wrote to Sargent:2 “I duly received your letter of the 24th of October.” Letter not found.]

1. Sargent, who had surveyed the Ohio country in 1786, was elected secretary of the Ohio Company in 1787 and was active in the planting of the Ohio settlements. In 1787 Congress appointed him secretary of the Territory Northwest of the River Ohio.
