Th: Jefferson will be obliged to Mr. Bankson as soon as he has finished the letters left with him yesterday, to go on with the Duplicate of those Aug. 16. and 23d. to Mr. Gouverneur Morris and the documents, taking therein the assistance of the other gentlemen. The press copy is to be sent to Mr. Morris, that on writing paper being wanting for another purpose. When it is ready, Mr. Bankson will be pleased to exert himself particularly to find some vessel going to France, and if possible a trusty passenger to whom he can commit it. Th:J. is authorised to refund the reasonable1 expences from the port of landing to Paris, of any trusty person who will undertake to deliver it. The letter now inclosed is to be sent with the other.

For another purpose: probably for inclusion among the documents pertaining to the recall of Edmond Charles Genet that the President submitted to Congress in December 1793 (, Foreign Relations, I, 141–88).
This day TJ also wrote a brief note to Bankson inclosing “the return of a Senator for Delaware, which he desires him so to dispose of as that it may be certainly delivered to the Secretary of the Senate when in town” (RC in DNA: RG 59, MLR, address being largely torn away, with note at foot of text by Robert Heyzham—“Received October the 26th. 1793 of Mr. Benjamin Bankson the Commission of John Vining Esqr. as a Senator of the United States from the State of Delaware. For Samuel A. Otis Secy of the Senate of the United States Rob: Heyzham Chf Clk”—and endorsement by George Taylor, Jr.; PrC in DLC; recorded in SJL as a letter of 12 Sep. 1793). SJL records a missing letter of 6 Sep. 1793 from Governor Joshua Clayton of Delaware received 11 Sep. 1793 dealing with the “return of Senator.”
On 2 Nov. 1792 Governor Thomas Sim Lee of Maryland had written a brief note to TJ from Annapolis transmitting an election certificate for members of the House of Representatives from that state (FC in MdAA: Maryland State Papers; recorded in SJL as received 6 Nov. 1792).
