Gentlemen

I received your Report.7 I am much obliged to you for the Great Pains and Care which you have taken in examining and adjusting the Accounts of Mr. Williams and beg you to accept my thankful acknowledgments. I shal not fail to acquaint the Congress, with your services being with much Esteem and respect Gentlemen

7. That report, now missing, must have accompanied JW’s accounts; see BF’s certificate of Aug. 26. JW sent the accounts to Congress in early November. His letter to Jay, dated Nov. 9, mentions the additional enclosure of his own memorial on the background of the audit, dated Nov. 6. Copies of the letter and the memorial are in the Yale University Library.
