From Thomas Jefferson to George Muter, 8 September 1780
To George Muter
In Council Sep. 8. 1780.
A ton of lead should be sent to Fredericksburg in waggons returning empty to Mr. Washington who has the care of the powder. An order may be drawn on him also for 30 bushels of salt.
Th: Jefferson
RC (Vi); written below a letter of Charles Dick to George Muter, 5 Sep. 1780; see below. Addressed (twice) to Muter and docketed. The letter from Dick to Muter (printed in full in i, 372–3), requesting lead and salt for use at the gun factory at Fredericksburg, was evidently transmitted to TJ for authorization, although there is no notation by Muter to that effect.
