AD, General Ledger A description begins General Ledger A, 1750–1772. Library of Congress, George Washington Papers, Series 5, Financial Papers. description ends , folio 160.

“Bell” was probably Josias Beall of Prince George’s County, Md., for whom GW’s slave carpenters did a large amount of work and whose name at this time GW always spelled “Bell.” See General Ledger A description begins General Ledger A, 1750–1772. Library of Congress, George Washington Papers, Series 5, Financial Papers. description ends , folio 121.

This was interest on the £100 bond of indebtedness that Robert Alexander paid off in 1762. See Cash Accounts, 1762, n.9.

Samuel Moxley used GW’s blacksmith from as early as 1761 through 1766. During these years GW received from him in exchange wheat, Indian corn, and cattle. See General Ledger A description begins General Ledger A, 1750–1772. Library of Congress, George Washington Papers, Series 5, Financial Papers. description ends , folio 54.

GW’s ledger shows him owing Gerrard Bowling (Garrard Bolling) of Fairfax County £1.9.3 for inspecting a total of eleven hogsheads of tobacco while prizing three in 1762 and 1763. On the other side of the ledger in his account with Bowling, GW shows that on 16 Mar. 1763 he paid Bowling £1.10 (General Ledger A description begins General Ledger A, 1750–1772. Library of Congress, George Washington Papers, Series 5, Financial Papers. description ends , folio 153).
