TJ received the first payment of £400 for the 474-acre tract on 7 Apr. 1810. He prepared a deed granting the land to Harrison in April 1810, but it was not formally recorded until February 1811 (MB description begins James A. Bear Jr. and Lucia C. Stanton, eds., Jefferson’s Memorandum Books: Accounts, with Legal Records and Miscellany, 1767–1826, 1997, The Papers of Thomas Jefferson, Second Series description ends , 2:1254; TJ to Christopher Clark, 1 Apr. 1810; TJ to Samuel J. Harrison, 9 Apr. 1810, 13 Feb. 1811).

1Probably an abbreviation for “payment.”
