Gentlemen of the Senate,
I nominate John Boyd, of Northumberland, to be Inspector of the Revenue for Survey No. 2 in the District of Pennsylvania; vice James Collins:1 and
John Driver, of Virginia, to be Surveyor for the Port of Suffolk; and Inspector of the Revenue for the same port; vice Samuel Riddick; resigned.2

1. John Boyd (1750–1832) was a veteran of the Revolutionary War and a member of the Society of the Cincinnati. After the war he returned to Northumberland County, where he married Rebecca Bull in 1794. Active in Pennsylvania politics prior to this appointment, Boyd was a member of the Supreme Executive Council, 1783–86; the state ratification convention, 1787; and the state legislature, 1790–92. He later served as register and recorder for Northumberland County, 1805–9.
2. John Driver (died c.1797) was a merchant in the town of Suffolk. Riddick’s correct first name is Lemuel (Josiah Parker to GW, 19 Dec. 1791, n.2). The U.S. Senate approved both appointments on 30 Jan. (, 148).
