Sir,
I cannot forbear expressing my astonishment, that you should have so far exceeded the time, limited for your return;1 I desire on receipt of this, you will instantly repair to camp.2 I am Sir Your hum. serv.

1. Hamilton wrote and then marked out additional text at this place on the draft: “notwithstanding too, the season is so far advanced and you must be convinced your presence with your regiment is essentially necessary.”
