Alexander Hamilton Papers

From Alexander Hamilton to Richard Harison, 11 April 1791

To Richard Harison

Treasury Department,
11 April 1791

Mr. Abijah Hammond1 has informed me that he delivered to the Grand Jury, before whom was brought the case of Christopher Bancker,2 the certificate, on which the charge against him was founded.3 I wish to know the present state of that affair.

I am, sir,   With great consideration,   Your Obedt Servant

Alex Hamilton

Richard Harison Esqr.
Atto. of the United States,
New York

LS, New-York Historical Society, New York City.

1Hammond was a New York City merchant.

2According to the New York City directory for 1792, Bancker was a “scrivener.”

3Bancker had apparently been charged with stealing Treasury certificates. See Harison to H, April 14, 1791.
