[Philadelphia] December 22d 1792.
The Secretary of the Treasury presents his respects to the President. The name of the person who was employed in superintending the erecting of the Lighthouse by mister Newton is Lemuel Cornick.1 The compensation to the Keeper of the Delaware Lighthouse is 266 Dollars and ⅔ of a Dollar.2

1. Thomas Newton, Jr., was responsible for arranging the contract for building the lighthouse at Cape Henry, Virginia. On this date GW appointed Lemuel Cornick, who had been overseeing construction of this lighthouse, as its new keeper (see Tobias Lear to Hamilton, 13 Oct. 1792, and note 1).
2. The keeper of the Cape Henlopen, Del., lighthouse was Abraham Hargis. For previous discussion of his salary, see Hamilton to GW, 18 June 1790, and note 1.
