1In his letter of 2 April to Thomas Newton, Jr., GW calls the man “Griffen Gilley.” According to GW’s Cash Memoranda, 1772-75 description begins “Pocket-day-Book or Cash-Memorandums,” 9 Aug. 1772–27 May 1773, 29 May 1773–22 March 1774, 26 Oct. 1774–3 May 1775. 2GW received this money on account of Robert Jones, David Keyes (Keas), and John Glascock, Jr. The sheriff of Fauquier County, Capt. William Blackwell, also made distresses on Thomas Slater, William Donaldson, Deel Clyman (Clymer), and James Deermont, but he received no money for them and GW wrote the £22 off as a loss (Ledger B description begins General Ledger B, 1772–1793. Library of Congress, George Washington Papers, Series 5, Financial Papers. description ends , 132).

4GW’s receipt is dated 23 April: “Then receivd from Mr John Augustine Washington the Sum of Fifteen pounds, which is in full of Interest ⟨o⟩n his Bond for One hundd and fifty pounds Dated the 5th of Novr 1768 to the ⟨mutilated⟩th of Novr 1773. Go: Washington” (ADS, MHi: C. E. French Papers).
