Treasury Department, Revenue Office, February 18, 1794. “I have the honor to enclose for submission to the President an agreement by letter of John McCauley1 to make the copper work of the Bald head Lantern.…2 there does not appear to be a prospect of effecting a more favorable contract.…”

1McCauley, a Philadelphia coppersmith, conducted his business at 89 South Front Street in that city.

2The Bald Head lighthouse was at the entrance to the Cape Fear River in North Carolina.
